HEALTH & BEAUTY: Medical spa in heart of the city

Chulalongkorn doctor sets up on Wireless Road
A medical doctor from Chulalongkorn University has established a spa on Wireless Road, in the heart of Bangkok.
S Medical Spa will support Bangkok’s claim to be the region’s major spa city, said the president of Papanan Co Ltd, Pakpilai Thavisin.
Papanan Co Ltd, the owner of S Medical Spa, was established with registered capital of Bt40 million two years ago by a doctor of medicine from Chulalongkorn and members of the private sector. Total investment was Bt200 million.

Pakpilai said that S Medical Spa would work as a day spa and provide a variety of services, including steam rooms, hydro jacuzzi, sauna, 7-in-1 hydrotherapy with shirodhara, anti-ageing medicine, beauty and dermatology, holistic therapy, and purification.
Weight management is also on the menu.
“We cater for our customers’ demands, especially foreign tourists who need a special one-day spa package,” she said.
“We started studying medical spas in Southeast Asia, Europe and the US two years ago, before creating our medical spa service,” Pakpilai said.
“This will be different from medical spas in other countries. We will offer a special package for our customers, starting with a minimum price of Bt2,000 for one treatment.”
The company is targeting an average of 100 customers per day for the first year’s operation, 70 per cent from the domestic market and the remainder being foreign tourists.

By 2007, it expects foreign tourists to make up 50 per cent of its customer base after aggressive marketing through a joint promotion campaign with the Nai Lert Park Raffles, a five-star hotel in Bangkok.
The company will also launch joint marketing campaigns with other luxury hotels in future, the spa owner said.
The spa market in Thailand is presently worth about Bt2 billion per year. Papanan Co Ltd expects a market share of at least 10 per cent within five years.
The company is aiming for revenue of Bt150 million in its first full year of operation after a soft opening on October 1 and sales growth averaging 20 per cent per year, Pakpilai said.
Papanan Co Ltd is also negotiating with an investor from India who is interested in opening a franchise of the medical spa in Bombay next year.
