Complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) is the term for medical products and practices that are not part of standard care. Standard care is what medical doctors, doctors of osteopathy and allied health professionals, such as registered nurses and physical therapists, practice. Alternative medicine means treatments that you use instead of standard ones. Complementary medicine means nonstandard treatments that you use along with standard ones.

Where You Live May Help You Survive A Heart Attack
Researchers focused their attention on 11 states that represented various regions in this country. Interestingly, the differences between the top (8-9 percent) and bottom states (around 11 percent), on average, didn't vary much.
Mortality rates blamed on a heart attack were the lowest in Washington, Colorado, Arizona and Oregon. The states with the highest incidents of heart attack deaths:
California
Maryland
New York
South Carolina
Although scientists failed to pinpoint any concrete reason for the statistical differences among the states, they suspect variations in care -- specifically the rate of angioplasties -- may have something to do with it. (Maryland had the lowest number, while Colorado had the highest.)
Fact is, you can greatly reduce your chances of ever needing an angioplasty -- no matter where you live -- by learning how to eat the right foods for your body's unique metabolic type and to start an exercise program today.
